Conference Overview: |
Borderline
Personality Disorder is present in 1-2% of the
population, yet little attention has been paid to
research and services for patients and their
families. In order to focus more attention in this
area, NEA-BPD has been formed to bring the latest
education to clinicians and family members. This
meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota combines the
efforts of NEA-BPD with the Department of Psychiatry
at the University of Minnesota Medical School. The
morning section of the meeting provides an overview
of borderline personality disorder by Dr. Robert
Friedel, author of the new book, Demystifying
Borderline Personality Disorder, and a lecture on
the use of fMRI to identify emotional recognition in
humans by Dr. Katie Thomas, University of Minnesota.
Other lectures include up-to-date information on
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy - both for patients
and for family members. To accentuate the needs of
families, a family panel will be convened. At the
conclusion of the meeting, the clinician and family
attendees alike will have gained valuable insights
into the underlying issues of BPD and the latest in
treatment approaches. |
